Mills-Cockell, John, Canadian composer; b. Toronto, May 19, 1943. He studied composition and electronic music at the Univ. of Toronto and at the Royal Cons, of Music there. In 1966 he developed, in collaboration with the writer Blake Parker, artist Michael Hayden, and designer Dick Zander, a method of composition and performance called Intersystems. He joined the rock bands Kensington Market in Toronto (1969), Hydro-Electric Streetcar in Vancouver (1969–70), and Syrinx in Toronto (1970–72), which he founded, and then devoted himself to composing and recording. He wrote numerous pieces for mixed media, works utilizing tape, electronic music for films, etc.
