Mayerl, Billy (William Joseph) (b London, 1902; d Beaconsfield, 1959). Eng. pianist and composer. Played Grieg conc. at Queen's Hall 1914. Gave f. London p. of Rhapsody in Blue. In 1921 joined Savoy Havana Band. Wrote many syncopated comps. for pf., incl. Marigold (1927) and Jasmine (1929). Regular and popular radio performer.
