Lima, Jeronymo Francisco de

Lima, Jeronymo Francisco de, Portuguese organist, pedagogue, and composer; b. Lisbon, Sept. 30, 1743; d. there, Feb. 19,1822. He received training at the Seminário Patriarcal in Lisbon (1751–61) and at the Cons, di S. Onofrio in Naples (1761–67). Returning to Lisbon, he became a member of the Brotherhood of St. Cecilia in 1767. He also taught music at the Seminário Patriarcal. In 1785 he was made mestre and in 1798 mestre de capela at the Cathedral, as well as organist of the royal chamber in 1800. Among his works were several stage pieces and numerous sacred works. His brother, Braz Francisco de Lima (b. Lison, May 3?, 1752; d. there, Sept. 15, 1813), was also a composer. He studied at the Cons, di S. Onofrio in Naples and at the Seminário Patriarcal in Lisbon. He eventually abandoned his musical career to pursue business interests. All the same, he composed many sacred works.
