Konetzni, Hilde

Konetzni, Hilde, famous Austrian soprano, sister of Anny Konetzni ; b. Vienna, March 21, 1905; d. there, April 20, 1980. She studied at the Vienna Cons., and later in Prague with Prochaska-Neumann. She made her operatic debut as Sieglinde in Die Walküre in Chemnitz in 1929; then sang at the German Theater in Prague (1932–36). In 1936 she became a member of the Vienna State Opera; also appeared at Salzburg, La Scala in Milan, Covent Garden in London, South America, and the U.S. In 1954 she joined the faculty of the Vienna Academy of Music. She was an outstanding interpreter of Wagner and Strauss.
