Johnson, Horace

Johnson, Horace, American composer; b. Waltham, Mass., Oct. 5, 1893; d. Tucson, Ariz., May 30, 1964. He studied with Bainbridge Crist. He wrote several popular pieces for orch., among them Astarte (Richmond, Jan. 2, 1936) and Streets of Florence (Mexico, July 9, 1937), as well as songs (“The Pirate,” “When Pierrot Sings,” “The Three Cherry Trees,” and “Thy Dark Hair”).
