Homme Armé, L' (The Armed Man). Old Fr. folk-song used by Du Fay, Palestrina, and more than 20 other composers in 15th, 16th, and 17th cents. as a cantus firmus in their Masses, which then became known by this title. Maxwell Davies, in the 20th cent., wrote Missa super ‘L'Homme Armé’ for speaker and ens. (1968).
