Herman, Nicolaus, German composer; b. Altdorf, near Nuremberg, 1500; d. Joachimsthal, West Bohemia, May 15, 1561. He was an organist, schoolmaster, and cantor in Joachimsthal from 1518 to 1560. As a composer, he was known for his Lutheran hymns, for which he wrote both texts and music.
