Hédouin, Pierre

Hédouin, Pierre, French government official, writer, and composer; b. Boulogne, July 28, 1789; d. Paris, Dec. 20, 1868. He studied law in Paris, and, after practicing in Boulogne, he was called to Paris in 1842 as head of the Ministry of Public Works. Among his writings were Éloge de Monsigny (Paris, 1820), Gossec: Sa vie et ses ouvrages (Paris, 1852), Mosaïque (Paris, 1856; a collection of articles), novels, and opera librettos. He also composed nocturnes, romances, and songs.
