Dir., York Early Music Fest. 1975–85. Revived basset cl. and restored orig. text of Mozart's conc. and quintet 1967; revived baroque cl. 1975. Gave f.ps. of works by Boulez, Goehr, Birtwistle, Maxwell Davies, D. Blake, Feldman, and Stockhausen. Took up cond. in 1970s. Cond. f. prod. of complete La finta giardiniera of Mozart, Swedish Nat. Opera 1986–7. Cond. Keiser's Claudius (1703) at Vadstena Acad., Sweden 1989. Cond. f.p. of Weir's The Vanishing Bridegroom, Glasgow 1990 (Scottish Opera). Has also cond. opera in Stuttgart. OBE 1988.
