Chamber mus. partner of Szigeti, Primrose, Thibaud, Cortot, and Schnabel. Master-class teacher, Paris Cons. 1941–9. Salzburg Fest. début 1958. Frank Martin's vc. conc. and Poulenc's vc. sonata were written for him.
