Cohen, Joel (Israel)

Cohen, Joel (Israel), American lutenist and conductor; b. Providence, R.I., May 23, 1942. He took courses in composition and musicology at Brown Univ. (B.A., 1963) and Harvard Univ. (M.A., 1965), then studied theory and composition with Boulanger in Paris (1965–67). In 1968 he became conductor of the Boston Camerata, which he led in works from the medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque eras.
