Ciamaga, Gustav

Ciamaga, Gustav, Canadian composer; b. London, Ontario, April 10, 1930. He studied theory with Weinz-weig and Beckwith at the Univ. of Toronto (1953–56) and studied composition and musicology with Berger, Snapero, and Irving Fine at Brandéis Univ. In 1963 he was appointed to the music faculty at the Univ. of Toronto, where he was director of its electronic music studio. His electronic scores include Ottawa 1967 (1966), Curtain Raiser (1969), One-Part Invention (1965), eight Two-Part Inventions (1965–70), and Ragamuffin Nos. 1 and 2 (1967). He also wrote several scores of computer music, among them Canon for Stravinsky (1972), as well as Solipsism while Dying for Voice, Instruments, and Tape (1972).
