Cellier, Alexandre (-Eugène)
Cellier, Alexandre (-Eugène), French organist, writer on music, and composer; b. Molières-sur-Cèse, Gard, June 17, 1883; d. Courbevoie, March 4, 1968. He was a pupil of Diemer (piano), Guilmant (organ), Leroux (harmony), and Widor (composition) in Paris. At 18, he was made organist at the Chapelle Milton. After serving as organist at the Temple de la Rédemption, he became organist at the Étoile in 1910. He publ. in Paris L’orgue moderne (1913), Les Passions et l’Oratorio de noel de J.S. Bach (1929), L’orgue: Ses éléments, son histoire et son esthétique (1933), and Traité de la registration d’orgue (1957). In addition to various organ pieces, he composed orch. works, chamber music, and piano pieces.
