Burton, John
Burton, John, English organist, harpsichordist, and composer; b. Yorkshire, 1730; d. probably in Portici, near Naples, Sept. 3, 1782. He was a pupil of Keeble. In 1754 he toured Germany with notable success, and later was active mainly in London. Among his works are a keyboard concerto, 10 sonatas for Harpsichord, or Organ, or Piano (1766), 6 sonatas for Piano, or Harpsichord, or Organ and Violin (c. 1770), and 12 Italian Canzonetts for Voice and Harpsichord (c. 1770).
