Bredemeyer, Reiner

Bredemeyer, Reiner, German composer; b. Velez, Colombia, Feb. 2, 1929. He studied composition with Karl Holler at the Akademie der Tonkunst in Munich (1949– 53); then took courses with Wagner- Regény at the Akademie der Künste in East Berlin (1955– 57). In 1961 he was appointed conductor of the German Theater in East Berlin; in 1978 he joined the faculty of the Akademie der Künste there. In his music he is an astute experimenter, but he adheres to the tenets of classical forms and avoids the extremes of modernism.
