Aston, Hugh

Aston, Hugh, English composer; b. 1485; d. Nov. 1558. He was educated at the Univ. of Oxford (B.Mus., 1510) and served as magister choristarum at St. Mary Newarke Hospital and Coll. in Leicester (c. 1525-48). His output includes 2 Masses (Te Deum for 4 Voices and Videte manus meas for 6 Voices), Gaude mater matris Christe and Te Deum landamus, both for 5 Voices, 4 incomplete works (publ. in Tudor Church Music, X, 1929), and a Hornepype for Keyboard.
