Albrecht, Otto Edwin

Albrecht, Otto Edwin, eminent American musicologist; b. Philadelphia, July 8, 1899; d. there, July 6, 1984. He studied at the Univ. of Pa. (A.B., 1921; M.A., 1925; Ph.D., 1931, with the diss. Four Latin Plays of St. Nicholas from the 12th Century Fleury Play-book; publ. in Philadelphia and London, 1935), where he was an instructor in French (1923–38) and curator of its Music Library (from 1937); from 1938 he was also a lecturer in its music dept. He retired in 1970 and was made emeritus prof. of music.
