Adam, Travis, Douglas, and Cole are (unrelated) orphans, living on the streets of 1860s New York City, when they find an abandoned baby girl. They adopt the baby, whom they name Mary Rose, and decide to head west to start a new life as a family. As the years pass the boys build a cattle ranch in Montana they name Rose Hill and overprotect their headstrong teenaged sister, who would like the chance to flirt with some beaus without her brothers hovering around.
