Open Doors ★★★½ Porte Aperte 1989 (R)

Bitter review of Fascist rule and justice. The Fascist regime promises security, safety, and tranquility. So, on the morning that a white collar criminal murders his former boss, murders the man who got his job, and then rapes and murders his wife, tensions rise and the societal structures are tested. The people rally for his death. A judge and a juror struggle to uphold justice rather than serve popular passions. Winner of four Donatello Awards, Italian Golden Globes for Best Film, Best Actor, and Best Screenplay, and many international film awards. In Italian with English subtitles. 109m/C VHS . IT Gian Marie Volonte, Ennio Fantastichini, Lidia Alfonsi; D: Gianni Amelio; W: Gianni Amelio.
