Night After Night ★★½ 1932

West's screen debut finds her in an unaccustomed secondary role, although a prime scene-stealer. In Raft's first starring role, he's a monied low-life who opens a fancy nightclub and becomes infatuated with Park Avenue beauty Cummings. His problems are compounded by the arrival of raucous ex-flames West and Gleason. When a hatcheck girl cries “Goodness!” over West's diamonds, she replies, in suggestive West-style, “Goodness had nothing to do with it, dearie.” Adapted from the novel “Single Night” by Louis Bromfield. 73m/B VHS, DVD . George Raft, Constance Cummings, Mae West, Wynne Gibson, Alison Skipworth, Roscoe Karns, Louis Calhern; D: Archie Mayo; W: Mae West, Kathryn Scola, Vincent Lawrence.
