MirrorMask ★★ 2005 (PG)

McKean teams with “Sandman” author Neil Gaiman in this otherworldly escapade from the Jim Henson Company. Helena (Leonidas) is the teenaged daughter of circus performers who longs for a “normal” life. But when her mom (McKee) lapses into a coma, Helena has to travel into a fantasy world to recover the MirrorMask from the Queen of Shadows. McKean's trippy CGI landscapes (rendered on a bare-bones budget) produce some of the most exciting film visuals in years, but you'll be so bored waiting for the story to kick in that the sugar rush from the eye candy wears off way too fast. 101m/C DVD, UMD . Jason Barry, Stephanie Leonidas, Gina McKee, Rob Brydon, Dora Bryan, Stephen Fry; D: David McKean; W: Neil Gaiman, David McKean; C: Antony Shearn; M: Ian Ballamy.
