Helas Pour Moi ★★ Oh Woe is Me 1994

Perplexing, contemplative film on faith and love—and maybe a miracle. Told in flashback, publisher Alexander Klimt (Verley) travels to a Swiss lakeside town where it's rumored that the beautiful Rachel Donnadieu (Masliah) has been “visited” by God, who wishes to experience the pleasures of love, in the form of her own husband, simple fisherman Simon (Depardieu). Story is derived from the Greek myth concerning Zeus, who seduced Alcmene in the shape of her husband Amphitryon. French with subtitles. 84m/C VHS . FR SI Gerard Depardieu, Laurence Masliah, Bernard Verley; D: Jean-Luc Godard; W: Jean-Luc Godard; C: Caroline Champetier.
