Fire Down Below ★ 1997 (R)

Seagal comes armed with his trademark ponytail, martial arts expertise, big leather jackets, and environmentfriendly message to the Appalachians in this hoedown showdown. As undercover (yeah, he blends right in) EPA agent Jack Taggart, Seagal must stop evil industrialist Hanner (Kristofferson) from dumping toxic waste. Of course, the company town sends the usual band of thugs (thoughtfully attacking one at a time) to make him go away. He finds allies in the local outcasts (Helgenberger and Stanton) en route to the final confrontation. Not Seagal's worst, but that's not saying much. Even the usually impressive fight scenes become tedious after a while. At least he didn't try to direct this one. Originally conceived as a Bruce Willis project at Columbia. 105m/C VHS, DVD . Steven Seagal, Marg Helgenberger, Kris Kristofferson, Harry Dean Stanton, Stephen Lang, Levon Helm, Brad Hunt, Richard Masur, Ed Bruce, Randy Travis, Mark Collie, Alex Harvey; D: Felix Alcala; W: Jeb Stuart; C: Tom Houghton; M: Nick GlennieSmith.
