The Aristocrats ★★★ 2005

“A family walks into a talent agency…” and so begins the raunchiest joke in cinematic history. It might seem odd to dedicate an entire documentary to one joke, but co-directors Provenza and Jillette excel at demonstrating how different comedians bring their own unique interpretations to the same material. The all-star interviewees (George Carlin, Chris Rock, and Robin Williams, among many others) speak elegantly about the joys of working “blue,” although the true tour-de-force performances come from Bob Saget, Gilbert Gottfried, and Sarah Silverman, who all give blisteringly filthy renditions of the titular joke that you'll be talking about for weeks to come. 87m/C DVD . USD: Paul Provenza; M: Gary Stockdale.
