Vince, Marion Lloyd (1906–1969)

American fencer . Born in Brooklyn, New York, on April 16, 1906; died on November 2, 1969; married.

Won national championship (1928 and 1931); member of the Helms Hall of Fame.

Marion Lloyd Vince was born in Brooklyn in 1906 but did not begin fencing until 1925. She quickly proved her abilities, winning the national championship in 1928 and 1931. In the 1932 Olympics, she was the first U.S. woman to attain the fencing finals. Her husband, who was also a fencer, directed the Salle Vince team which won ten national team championships. Marion Lloyd Vince, a key member of those winning teams, was named to fencing's Helms Hall of Fame, and the under-19 national championship trophy awarded by the Amateur Fencing League of America was named for her.
