Cinti-Damoreau, Laure (1801–1863)

French soprano. Name variations: Madame Damoreau; Laure Cinthie Montalant; Mademoiselle Cinti. Born in Paris, France, on February 6, 1801; died in Chantilly, France, on February 25, 1863; studied in Paris with Plantade and Catalani.

In 1819, Laure Cinti-Damoreau made her first appearance as Cherubino in Le Nozzo di Figaro in Paris. In 1822, her pure, distinct voice could be heard in London, and in 1826 at the Grand Opéra in Paris where she created leading roles in Rossini's Le siège de Corinth, Moïse, Le Comte Ory and Guillaume Tell. From that time on, she sang to great success in both in Europe and the United States. In 1834, Cinti-Damoreau was made professor of singing at the Conservatoire, Paris, and taught there until her retirement in 1856.
