American zoologist and explorer. Name variations: Gloria Hollister. Born in 1903; died in 1988.
American zoologist Gloria Hollister Anable worked with William Beebe in exploring the sea in his bathysphere. She set the women's record for depth in August 1931 at 1,208 feet. In 1936, while flying a light plane in British Guiana, she discovered 43 as yet unmapped waterfalls, including Kaieteur Falls, which is five times the elevation of Niagara. Anable was a fellow with the New York Zoological Society and the Geographical Society.
