Description:

State-supported, university, coed. Awards bachelor's, master's, doctoral, and first professional degrees and post-master's certificates. Founded 1886. Setting: 785-acre small town campus. Collegiate Environment:

Community Environment:

Named for Jacques LaRamie, an early trapper for the American Fur Company, Laramie was established in 1868. Today, the community is known as the "Gem City of the Plains." The mean annual temperature is 42 degrees. The city is accessible by air and bus lines. There are 24 churches in the area, representing 20 different religious denominations, a full-service hospital, library, and civic and fraternal organizations serving the community. Local recreation includes 2 movie theaters, bowling, golf, hunting, fishing, and nearby Snowy Range ski area. An annual rodeo and jubilee are held in July.
