Armstrong, Richard
Armstrong, Richard, English conductor; b. Leicester, Jan. 7, 1943. He studied at Corpus Christi Coll., Cambridge. In 1966 he joined the staff of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London; in 1968 he became asst. conductor of the Welsh National Opera, Cardiff; from 1973 to 1986 he was its music director; also appeared as a guest conductor. In 1993 he became music director of Glasgow’s Scottish Opera and chief conductor of the new National Orch. of Scotland. That same year he was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire.
