Engel, Karl (b Theiedewiese, 1818; d Kensington, 1882). Ger. pianist and writer. Settled London, c.1845, where he formed valuable library and coll. of ancient instr. Among his writings are Introduction to the Study of National Music (1866) and Researches into the Early History of the Violin Family (1883).
