Pitzinger, Gertrude
Pitzinger, Gertrude , Bohemian contralto; b. Mährisch-Schönberg, Aug. 15, 1904. She studied music with Joseph Marx at the Vienna Academy of Music, and voice with various teachers. After several concert tours in central Europe, she went to the U.S. and gave a N.Y. recital on Jan. 17, 1938, with excellent success. She specialized in German lieder; her repertoire included some 400 songs. She taught singing at the Hochschule für Musik in Frankfurt am Main (1960–73).
