mucolytic
mucolytic (mew-koh-lit-ik) n. an agent, such as dornase alfa (see DNAse), that breaks down mucus in sputum, making it easier to cough up. Mucolytics are used to treat chest conditions involving excessive or thickened mucus secretions.
