Hemmel, Sigmund
Heemmel, Sigmund, German composer; b. place and date unknown; d. probably in Tübingen, 1564. He was a tenor in the Stuttgart Hofkapelle by 1544, being named Hofkapellmeister in 1549. He continued in the service of the court when it was in Tübingen (1551–53), but after it returned to Stuttgart he gave up his post as Hofkapellmeister in 1554-55 while remaining a singer in the Kofkapelle. In 1564 he was again with the court of Tübingen, where he most likedly died of the plague. Hemmel was one of the leading composers of Protestant church music of his day. His Der gantz Psalter Davids, wie der selbig in teutsche Gesänge verfasset for 4 Voices was publ, posthumously in Tübingen in 1569.
