serological test
serological test A test of similarity between organisms. Plant proteins may be injected into a vertebrate (usually mammalian) bloodstream, which will then raise antibodies specific to those proteins. The blood serum can then be mixed with proteins from another plant species and the extent of the immunological response will be proportional to be similarity of the proteins and, by inference, the relatedness of the plant species.
