Agostini, Lodovco

Agostini, Lodovco, Italian singer and composer; b. Ferrara, 1534; d. there, Sept. 20, 1590. He centered his activities on Ferrara. After early training in music, he entered the priesthood. From 1572 he was at the cappella at Ferrara Cathedral. In 1578 he became maestro di cappella to Duke Alfonso II of Este, a post he held until his death. A number of his sacred and secular vocal works were publ. in Milan, Ferrara, and Venice (1567–86).
