Danish zoologist whose work in arctic biology has contributed toward understanding the co-evolutionary nature of lifecycles and morphology of animals in arctic ecosystems. Funch's extensive research in Greenland led to the discovery of Symbion pandora, a new life form and new phylum. He has also pioneered new techniques of light microscopy and scanning electromicroscopy that have furthered understanding of the molecular level of arctic meiofauna.
