English stage and screen actress. Born Alison Groom, July 25, 1863, in London, England; died July 5, 1952, in New York, NY; m. Frank Markham Skipworth (artist).
Made London debut in A Gaiety Girl (1894); debuted on Broadway in The Artist's Model (1895); became a member of Daniel Frohman's company (1897); other plays include The Swan, The Enchanted April, The Torch Bearers, The Grand Duchess and the Waiter and Marseilles; made film debut (1930); appeared in over 100 films, including Raffles, Outward Bound, Madame Racketeer, Song of Songs, Alice in Wonderland, Becky Sharp and Ladies in Distress; was W. C. Fields' foil in If I Had a Million, Tillie and Gus and Six of a Kind.
