Polymixiidae (beardfish; superorder Paracanthopterygii, order Polymixiiformes) A small family of deep-water fish that have a deep body, a pair of long chin barbels, a few spines preceding the dorsal and anal fins, and a forked tail fin. Polymixia nobilis (beardfish), 30 cm, is probably widely distributed and may occur world-wide in tropical seas at depths of more than 200 m. There are two species.
