Silva, Ercole
Silva, Ercole (1756–1840). Italian landscape-architect. He designed (c.1799) a Picturesque ‘English’ garden at Cinisello, near Milan (destroyed), but his Dell'arte dei giardini inglesi (On the art of the English Garden—1801 with later editions) was an important Italian work on landscape gardening, which drew on Hirschfeld and others while helping to spread the fashion for English-style gardens and exotic plants.
