Rust, Giacomo
Rust, Giacomo , Italian composer; b. Rome, 1741; d. Barcelona, 1786. He studied at the Turchini Cons. in Naples and with Rinaldo di Capua in Rome. In 1763 he composed his first opera for Venice, where many of his subsequent operas were premiered. In 1777 he was called to Salzburg as court Kapellmeister, but ill health compelled him to give up his post within a few months and he returned to Italy to continue his productive career as an opera composer. In 1783 he became maestro di cappella at the Barcelona Cathedral, but continued to compose until his death. In all, he wrote some 30 dramatic scores.
