Passy, (Ludvig Anton) Edvard
Passy, (Ludvig Anton) Edvard, Swedish pianist, organist, teacher, and composer; b. Stockholm, Sept. 3, 1789; d. Drottningholm, Aug. 16, 1870. He received his first music instruction from his brother, then studied with L. Piccinni in Stockholm, John Field in St. Petersburg, and Eggert in Stockholm. After several successful tours of Germany, he settled in his native city as a highly esteemed teacher, and pianist in the royal orch. (1818–23) and organist of the royal chapel (1833–66). He wrote 2 operas, 2 piano concertos, Fantasy for Piano and Orch., 4 string quartets, Piano Trio, choruses, songs, organ works, and many virtuoso piano pieces.
