Won USGA Amateur (1937) and was runner-up (1938) and semifinalist (1941, 1947); was a member of the Curtis Cup team (1938, 1948); won many national championships, including the North and South (1933, 1936, 1940, 1941, 1946, 1947, and 1949); held the world record score of 66 in medal-play competition.
