Cardale, Effie (1873–1960)
New Zealand social-welfare worker. Born Effie Julia Margaret Cardale, May 20, 1873, in Christchurch, New Zealand; died Oct 19, 1960, in Christchurch; dau. of Alfred (stock owner) and Flora Emily (Coward) Cardale.
Worked on behalf of women and children through various charities funded by Anglican church (1914–55); member of North Canterbury Hospital Board (1929–31); became justice of peace and was appointed conciliator to court and mediated divorce cases (1939). Member of British Empire (1949).
