Jean Etienne Montucla
Jean Etienne Montucla
1725-1799
French mathematician who wrote several influential books on the history of mathematics and on interesting mathematical problems of his day. Montucla was also friends with many of the finest French mathematicians of his time, reviewing papers and collaborating with Jean Baptiste Fourier, Denis Diderot, Jean d'Alembert, and others. Unfortunately, he had a position with the French government, so much of his work ground to a halt during the French Revolution.
