Kalotermitidae
Kalotermitidae (subclass Pterygota, order Isoptera) Family of lower termites which form small colonies and feed in dry, dead wood. Pheromones secreted by the king and queen prevent pseudergates from metamorphosing. When the queens die this inhibition is released, and the pseudergates are transformed into reproductives. There are about 300 species, with a world-wide distribution but found mainly in the tropics.
