wide distribution (polychore distribution) The situation in which taxonomic groups of plants (and to a lesser extent animals) have a very extensive distributional range, spanning several floral kingdoms or regions (e.g. ‘wides’ may be cosmopolitan, subcosmopolitan, tropical, or temperate).
