Mahāvaṃsa

Mahāvaṃsa (Pāli, ‘great’ + ‘story’). Pāli Buddhist chronicle of Sinhalese history from the time of the Buddha Śākyamuni to the 4th cent. CE. Cūlavamsa (Little Story) is an appendix which carries the story down to the 18th cent. The main chronicle was written c.5th cent. CE, and it is attributed to Mahānāma, though nothing certain is known of him.
