Mahātman

Mahātman or Mahātma (Skt., mahā, ‘great’, + ātman, ‘soul’).
1. In Hinduism, one having a great soul, any exceptionally distinguished, magnanimous, or wise person; also a particular group of deceased ancestors mentioned in the Mārkaṇḍeya Purāṇa. Mohandas Gāndhī was considered a Mahātma by many.

2. In the Upaniṣadic tradition, the supreme principle or great soul of the universe.
