Hōkyōin-darani
Hōkyōin-darani (Jap., ‘the treasure-casket seal dhāraṇī’). One of three spells chanted daily in Shingon and Tendai temples. It is of great efficacy, since if its forty clauses are recited seven times, an ancestor in torment in hell (jigoku) will be released into the domain of Amida. It is also efficacious in relation to illness.
