Hokanson, Leonard (Ray)
Hokanson, Leonard (Ray), American pianist and teacher; b. Vinalhaven, Maine, Aug. 13, 1931. He received training in piano from Hedwig Rosenthal (1947–8), Artur Schnabel (1948–51), Karl Ulrich Schnabel (1951–53), and Claude Frank (1952–55). He pursued his academic studies at Clark Coll. (B.A., 1952) and Bennington Coll. (M.A., 1954). In 1949 he made his debut as soloist with the Philadelphia Orch., and subsequently toured internationally as a soloist with orchs., as a recitalist, as a chamber music player, and as an accompanist. He was a prof, at the Frankfurt am Main Hochschule für Musik (1976–78) and at the Ind. Univ. School of Music in Bloomington (from 1986).
